The University provides many opportunities for students to gain UKCC level coaching and umpiring qualifications during their time at St Andrews and develop their coaching and teaching skills in various training environments.
Coaching and Coach Education
To improve the standard of coaching the University encourages students to take the next level of qualification when they are ready and course fees are heavily subsidised by Saints Sport and the Western Union Coach Development Bursary.
Many governing body programmes are UKCC-endorsed – meaning that they meet an agreed set of standards. The UKCC – managed by sports coach UK – is a framework for developing, endorsing and continuously improving sports coach education programmes.
Many of our players come from countries where volleyball is one of the most popular team sports. We want to make use of this potential to promote volleyball at the grassroots level in the local St Andrews community. Led by the Director Colin Paterson, the club offers weekly taster sessions at Madras College for 12-18 year olds.
The University’s international volunteering projects in Africa are the pinnacle of the volunteering pathway, providing a real incentive for student volunteers, and a life changing experience for those coaches lucky enough to be selected.
